While Mark
Hybner is an extremely successful music producer he also has a soft side and so
helped start a fishing tournament in his Hometown of Shiner, Texas. This little fish tournament happens
annually at the Goose Island State Park
in Rockport, Texas. The tournament is open to all but
does cost a small amount to enter. There are awards for various different fish
of different weight in different categories. Mark Hybner started this
tournament in 2006 and every year it has grown bigger. The tournament benefits
the Sts. Cyril and Methodious Catholic Church religious Education Fund. The
tournament is a great source of fun and entertainment for the entire family.
There is a
women's only tournament, an open event and a kids’ event. The woman only event
starts at 5:00am and weigh in is at 3:00pm. At 6:00pm on Friday evening
registration opens for the following day’s kid event and the adult main event.
At 7:00pm is the dinner and the attendance raffle. Registration ends at 9:00pm
on Friday night. Saturday is the day of the main event. Again at 5:00am the
tournament begins and fishermen and kids alike head out to the water. 10 hours
later the fishing is over and the weigh in begins. Everyone who catches
something tosses the catch in, to join the giant fish fry which starts at
5:00pm. At 6:00 the winners are announced. The tournament annually raises quite
a bit of money for the Sts. Cyril and Methodious Catholic Church religious
Education Fund and Mark Hybner could not be
more pleased with that.
